Van Gogh refers to his floral paintings with great enthusiasm for their colour.  Sunflowers always had a special meaning for him.  At his funeral, his friend and model, Dr. Paul gachet, brought a bunch of yellow sunflowers to lay on the painter's coffin, while others arrived with dahlias and more yellow blossoms.
